A day at the fair

Last weekend was the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo. We had been meaning to go all weekend and finally made it on Sunday afternoon. Sunday was the last day of the fair and was free to everyone, so I expected it to be a zoo, but to my surprise, it was pretty empty. Quite different from my childhood experiences at the San Diego County fair, which is quite the event in San Diego...

We first spent a little time checking out the animals. We started in the hen house, which was probably a mistake. All the commotion in there was a bit much for Lauren and she became really clingy and not interested in anything we were looking at. By the time we made it to the rabbit area, she had calmed down and was really excited to see all the rabbits - I think they remind her of our cats. After running into some friends, we went to the rodeo, which was a first for me. It was fun, but hard to sit through with Lauren trying to climb all over us. Finally we made it to the rides and Lauren went on her first carnival ride! Tyrone and I each took her on the merry-go-round, which she somewhat liked, but grew bored of by the second time around.

All in all, it was a fun afternoon - possibly the start of a summer tradition. Maybe next year, we'll work our way up to the kiddie train!
